Projeto Político-Pedagógico Yanomami: um estudo da etnoeducação na Comunidade Maturacá

Abstract

This study focuses on the Yanomami Political-Pedagogical Project (PPPY) within the context of ethno-education in the Maturacá community of the Yanomami people, located in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas state. The general objective was to develop a proposal for creating the Indigenous Political-Pedagogical Project (PPPI) for the Imaculada Conceição State Indigenous School, based on the aspirations of the Maturacá Indigenous Community, thereby broadening the frame of reference for Political-Pedagogical Projects in the municipality. To this end, three specific objectives were defined: to highlight the sociocultural and political-pedagogical factors that hinder the development of PPPIs in state schools; to present the regulatory and theoretical frameworks underpinning the Indigenous Political-Pedagogical Project, considering sociocultural, environmental, and territorial dimensions; and to select the traditional knowledge and experiences that should form the foundation of the Yanomami PPPI, based on contributions from indigenous leaders. The methodology employed is interdisciplinary and qualitative, grounded in direct observation of the indigenous educational setting, participatory research, and a literature review, complemented by semi-structured interviews with community leaders. Expected results indicate that the traditional knowledge proposed by the leaders can become a key reference point for the PPPI, highlighting the specific sociocultural, environmental, and territorial characteristics of the Yanomami people. Furthermore, identifying the factors that impede the creation of PPPIs across different territories serves as a starting point for formulating tailored public policies capable of ensuring indigenous school education that respects and values traditional peoples.
