Resumo
This dissertation focuses on the novel A porta da viagem sem retorno, by the Franco-Senegalese writer David Diop. The research theme is based on the interface between Literature and History, choosing a Post-Colonial critical perspective (Said, 2011; Hall, 2013; Bhabha, 2013; Brugioni, 2022) for a reading of Diop's novel, in relation to aspects that mark the modern history of Senegal. We refer, in particular, to the history of French imperialism in different West African countries, mainly Senegal, read from the narrative that shapes David Diop's novel. Methodologically, the work, in the first chapter, revisits the historical context of Senegal, the pre-colonial kingdoms, and the impact of imperialism and the slave trade in the region, in addition to presenting the novelist studied. The second part of the dissertation consists of analyzing, through the French character Michel Adanson, the representation of colonial memory and violence. The third chapter focuses on the analysis of culture, tradition, and the character of Maram Seck, reflecting on how she constructs herself as a critical perspective on tradition and colonization.
