Os desafios da prática da crítica de cinema no Amazonas a partir dos integrantes do Estado na ABRACCINE

Abstract

This research analyzed the challenges and possibilities of film criticism practice in the state of Amazonas, focusing on critics affiliated with Abraccine, while considering the contemporary transformations of cultural journalism and film criticism in peripheral contexts. The study was grounded in the understanding of criticism as a discursive, rhetorical, and cultural practice, drawing on the theoretical contributions of authors such as Habermas, Eagleton, Bordwell, Sodré, and Foucault, whose works were used to discuss critical authority, symbolic mediation, legitimation, and the circulation of discourse in digital environments. The research sought to understand how critics from Amazonas build their professional trajectories, develop strategies to remain active in the field, and confront regional inequalities historically associated with cultural circulation in Brazil. Methodologically, the study adopted a qualitative approach based on in-depth semi-structured interviews with critics from Amazonas, analyzed through the Collective Subject Discourse method. The findings indicate that film criticism in Amazonas is characterized by predominantly self-taught trajectories, economic precariousness, limited presence in traditional media outlets, and the need to reconcile criticism with other professional activities. The study also found that critical recognition occurs progressively through consistent production, peer recognition, and institutional and cultural connections. It is concluded that, despite structural limitations and regional inequalities, film criticism in Amazonas is sustained through adaptive strategies, collective practices, and the use of digital platforms, revealing possibilities for the continuity and resistance of critical activity in peripheral contexts.
