Efeitos de uma competição simulada de treinamento funcional de alta intensidade sobre marcadores de estresse, recuperação e potência muscular

Resumo

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a simulated HIFT competition on general stress, recovery, physical well-being, and muscle power. The study included 15 healthy men (31.5±2.8 years old; 83.5±7.4 kg; XX ± years) with experience in the modality for more than 1 year, weekly training frequency of more than 3 days, and experience in HIFT competitions at the regional level. The HIFT competition was held over 2 days with 2 WOD on each day. 2h intervals were respected between the WODs. The levels of general stress, recovery, and physical well-being were assessed using the RESTQ-Sport questionnaire 48h before and 24h after the simulated HIFT competition. Indicators of lower and upper limb power were assessed on a jumping platform and through medicine ball throwing, respectively. Power assessments were performed 72h before (baseline), at the Pre-WOD and Post-WOD moments. To assess changes in the parameters evaluated, Cohen's d effect size (Effect Size - ES) was used. ES was classified as < 0.5 (small); 0.5 – 0.8 (moderate) and >0.8 (large). For the RESTQSport questionnaire values, ES was calculated from the means obtained at the Pre and Post simulated competition moments. For the power parameters at different times, the reference used was the baseline value. The reproducibility measurements of the power parameters were performed between the baseline and Pre-WOD 1 moments. The results indicated a high reproducibility in the power measurements. Moderate ES were observed for increases in somatic complaints (ES=0.50), reduction in success (ES=0.50), reduction in sleep quality (ES=0.52). In relation to the power parameters, when compared to the baseline values, we observed a moderate increase in the distance of the medicineball horizontal throw at Pre-WOD 2 (ES= 0.56), Post-WOD 3 (ES=0.67), Pre-WOD 4 (ES=0.72) and Post-WOD 4 (ES=0.59). In addition, a large effect size increase was observed at the Post-WOD 2 moment (ES=0.86). There was also an increase in the values of Anaerobic Peak Power of moderate size (ES=0.53) at Post-WOD 2. We can conclude that a simulated HIFT competition seems to increase somatic complaints, reduce the perception of success, and impair sleep quality. Increases in power performance occur mainly in the upper limbs and may be related to post-activation potentiation mechanisms. Keywords: High-intensity functional training; neuromuscular status; mock competition; muscle recovery.
