The scenario presented in this dissertation highlights the use of automated greenhouses and 3D-printed robotic arms. These tools were developed to enable students to monitor soil temperature and humidity, integrating sensors and technological devices to facilitate the understanding of these processes. The robotic arm, a central component of the system, is capable of performing precise movements in three positions, corresponding to the locations of plant pots in the automated greenhouse. Equipped with a hose, the robotic arm enables automatic plant irrigation, triggered based on data provided by soil moisture sensors. The system identifies when irrigation is needed and carries out the process automatically, following a schedule defined by the user. This model fosters users' creativity by allowing them to customize system behavior through function programming.
The functionality of ERPLab was validated within a plant care scenario, monitoring soil temperature and moisture conditions. For this purpose, components widely recognized in robotics education were employed, including MG995 servo motors, Arduino boards, temperature and humidity sensors, LEDs, ESP32 modules for control and communication, and a water pump for irrigation. The integration of these devices provided users with a practical and immersive experience, stimulating learning through interaction with the system.
The results indicated a positive impact on the learning process, with particular significance in regions with limited infrastructure. The technical usability evaluation, based on Nielsen’s usability methods, and the pedagogical usability evaluation, using Nokelainen’s criteria, revealed an overall satisfaction score of 2.45, placing ERPLab in the \textbf{High} range (High Agreement range: 2.1 - 3.0) according to the established analysis criteria.
ERPLab’s adaptability to various contexts and disciplines is enhanced by its integration of technologies such as additive manufacturing. This reconfigurability positions ERPLab as a robust remote laboratory model, capable of addressing a wide range of educational needs while promoting inclusion and the democratization of robotics and programming education.
