Relatório de estágio supervisionado obrigatório: Laboratório Múltiplo para Produção de Organismos Aquáticos

Resumo

The Mandatory Supervised Internship was carried out at the Laboratório Múltiplo para Produção de Organismos Aquáticos (LAMPOA), Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA), a facility dedicated to the development of teaching, research, and extension activities in aquaculture, with an emphasis on fish farming. The laboratory maintains culture systems mainly for tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) and matrinxã (Brycon amazonicus), used in experimental activities and research projects, and also has recirculating water systems for maintaining ornamental fish and conducting studies aimed at reusing water throughout the production cycle, reducing water consumption and the need for frequent exchanges. LAMPOA houses stingrays seized by competent authorities, kept under appropriate animal welfare conditions. The internship lasted 300 hours, from March 18 to June 11, 2026, under the supervision of Dr. Luciano Jensen Vaz, the laboratory coordinator, and during this period activities were carried out related to the management of aquatic organisms, water quality monitoring, maintenance of culture systems, and support for experimental routines developed in the laboratory. Among the activities performed were monitoring research experiments, routine management practices including water renewal and replenishment of reservoirs and tanks, as well as analysis of physicochemical parameters of the water such as pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, and alkalinity, along with analyses of nitrogen compounds including ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, which are fundamental for monitoring water quality and maintaining the health of cultured organisms. The laboratory also has a feed factory, where formulations are produced for research involving the inclusion of regional by-products in fish diets, as well as feed production for extension projects developed by the institution, and LAMPOA serves as a support space for academic activities of Fisheries Engineering students, functioning as a site for practical classes and scientific work development. The experience gained during the internship allowed for the practical application of knowledge acquired throughout the undergraduate program, contributing to the development of technical, scientific, and professional skills in aquaculture, fostering an ethical and responsible attitude, broadening the understanding of the importance of proper management in aquaculture production systems and its influence on the quality of life, health, and survival of cultured organisms, and thus the supervised internship represented an important stage in professional training, consolidating theoretical knowledge and strengthening essential skills for the practice of the profession of zootechnician.
