Representações sociais e políticas de um fenômeno televisivo: Vale Tudo (1988) na disputa pela redemocratização

Resumo

This dissertation presents the results of a study in Cultural History on the telenovela Vale Tudo (1988), written by Gilberto Braga, Aguinaldo Silva, and Leonor Bassères, broadcast from May 16, 1988, to January 7, 1989, at 8 PM on Rede Globo. Based on analysis sheets produced from the 204 chapters of the work, the study critically analyzes the construction of the characters, the relationships they establish within the context of expectations for the New Republic, and the incorporation of facts and events that occurred in the extradiegetic universe, which allow for dialogues, connections, and identifications with the viewer. By confronting the alternatives presented in the narrative with critical interpretations of the historical context, it becomes possible to promote a dialogue between fiction and reality, placing Vale Tudo (1988) within a Brazil marked by intense political and social transformations. Considering the context of the work's production and exhibition, as well as the intentions of its authors, the various mediations that competed for space within the plot that became canon in national television drama are also evident.
