Resumo
This research investigates, using a analytical-interpretative approach, the poetics of Roberto
Evangelista within the field of contemporary Brazilian haiku, with emphasis on the work
Sementes Germinadas (2021), published posthumously in co-authorship with Márcio Catunda.
The study focuses exclusively on the haiku written by Evangelista, seeking to understand how
these poems articulate imagery and symbolism in the construction of a lyrical voice. In this
sense, the main objective is to analyze how Roberto Evangelista elaborates his haiku through
the intersection between the classical Japanese structure, notably the 5-7-5 metric pattern and
the use of kigô (season word), and the poetic representation of the Amazonian landscape, which
becomes the protagonist in his verses. The research is based on two axes: the analysis of metric
construction and the investigation of the symbolic representation of the Amazon, aiming to
determine whether Evangelista’s poetry remains faithful to the traditional form of Japanese
haiku and how regional nature is aestheticized in his texts. The methodology is qualitative,
combining textual analysis with in-depth bibliographical research. The reading of the haiku is
guided by categories such as meter, poetic imagery, intertextuality, and symbolic syncretism.
The theoretical framework is grounded in scholars of haiku and Japanese and Brazilian poetry,
among whom Earl Miner (1996), Haroldo de Campos (2020), Paulo Franchetti (2012), Luiz
Bacellar (1985), Cacio José Ferreira, and Rita Oliveira (2017) stand out. The importance of this
study lies in the recognition of Roberto Evangelista’s singular contribution to Brazilian haiku
literature, particularly regarding the valorization of Amazonian poetic production, which
remains underexplored in major academic centers. By shedding light on this regional and
intercultural dimension, the research contributes to the expansion of haiku studies in Brazil, as
well as to the appreciation of poetic voices that articulate tradition, memory, and aesthetic
invention.
