A Charge do Miranda: espectros cômicos e processos humorísticos na ditadura amazonense (1973-1976)

Resumo

This thesis analyzes the political uses and functionalities of the column A Charge do Miranda, illustrated by João Miranda de Queiroz from Amazonas, during the context of the dictatorship. The study focuses on the period between 1973 and 1976, beginning with the cartoonist's early works and extending to the outcomes of the 1976 municipal election. Based on the regularities of political humor, two peaks of production were evaluated, serving as a guide for investigating two public events: the "Municipal Watergate" case and the 1976 electoral campaign. From these studies, two consistent patterns were observed: the dynamics of humorous processes behind the negotiations between the newspaper's interlocutors and its producers, and the subtle or explicit interferences of the director, Umberto Calderaro, in the column's content. These findings demonstrate that, although the column was used as a political tool to convey the newspaper's values, this relationship was not always hierarchical, following negotiations and dynamics inherent to cultural circularity.
