Abstract

Complex System of Geodiversity in the Preto da Eva River Sub-basin, Amazonas (Brazil): Prospective Scenarios of Landscape Physiognomy. This doctoral thesis analyzes the landscape physiognomy of the Preto da Eva River sub-basin, located in Central Amazonia, through the lens of geodiversity as a complex system, based on Edgar Morin’s theory of complexity. The research applies the modeling of past, present, and future prospective scenarios as a methodological tool to interpret spatial transformations driven by anthropogenic pressures, especially following the opening of the AM-010 highway and the territorial consolidation of the municipality of Rio Preto da Eva. The study conceptualizes landscape as a dynamic space-time unit shaped by interactions between natural componentes (geology, landforms, soils, climate, and hydrography) and land use practices. It adopts na interdisciplinary and systemic approach, incorporating analytical matrices, complex interaction networks, and spatial modeling techniques. Chapter I presents the theoreticalmethodological framework, highlighting the concepts of scenario planning and complexity. Chapter II explores geographic categories of land use and geodiversity. Chapter III discusses the historical evolution of land occupation and its impacts. Chapter IV provides a geoenvironmental interpretation of the landscape and models future scenarios based on the observed spatial patterns. The results highlight scenario modeling as a strategic planning tool for territorial management and the conservation of ecosystem services and landscape integrity in the Amazon region.
