Resumo

This research, through bibliographical, imagery, and field studies, surveyed archaeological sites with engravings/petroglyphs made by pre-Columbian groups in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Alto Rio Negro, Amazon, and based on the identification of these places, the research was developed in order to understand the locational context, characterize and establish models of the drawings left on rock supports, and bring perceptions and knowledge about these pre-Columbian indigenous archaeological sites (places). Seeking a way to verticalize the understanding of these sites, we carried out a study and systemic analysis (environmental and cultural), making it possible to contribute with new perspectives on the rock supports recorded through analytical scales, macro-spatial, semi-micro, regional and micro-spatial in the understanding of archaeological sites and its surroundings, with their geographic, historical and social particularities and, bringing knowledge about these pre-Columbian human settlements, understanding the strategies of interaction, perception, use of space and landscape. This is in the context of a cognitive dynamic, of memory and appropriation of places, involving technical, thematic and symbolic Amerindian knowledge represented in the rock supports.
