Estratégias domésticas de economia e consumo consciente

Resumo

This dissertation examines how education for sustainability, when applied to domestic life, can contribute to family economy and conscious consumption in Coari, Amazonas. The research was carried out in partnership with the NGO Mulheres de Atitude, involving 20 women—5 of whom participated in interviews, while all 20 took part in group dynamics. The study adopts a qualitative, participatory, and situated approach, using instruments such as the knowledge web dynamic, idea generation groups, short questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. These tools made it possible to identify existing practices, barriers, and feasible solutions within the participants’ daily routines.Data were organized through thematic analysis, guiding the creation of an educational product composed of short videos lasting three to six minutes. The product addresses four interdependent household domains: energy and water; food and conscious cooking; waste and circularity; and budgeting and purchasing decisions. It aligns with the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with emphasis on SDGs 10, 12, and 13.Among the main results are solutions involving energy and water efficiency habits, meal planning based on seasonal products to reduce food waste, waste separation for home composting, and the use of shopping lists and spending diaries to prioritize essential items. The product reflects the integration of systemic and complex thinking with practice, offering concrete, measurable, and accessible steps for low-income families without requiring expensive technologies. As a contribution, the dissertation proposes a replicable model for Environmental Science Education in non-formal learning contexts, detailing the application of theoretical frameworks in choices of format, language, formative assessment, and editorial governance. It also points out possibilities for scalability in community networks, schools, and public services, suggesting partnerships to improve waste management routes, access to consumer information, and support for repair and exchange fairs. The study concludes that the home can serve as a starting point for sustainability education when materials and processes take into account care time, available budget, and local knowledge, generating measurable impacts on family wellbeing and the environment.
