Comunidade Buriti (Nova Cidade, Manaus-AM): agentes e processos espaciais urbanos

Abstract

The growing demand for housing due to population growth in urban areas, where income is a key factor in obtaining housing under the conditions established by the State, as a significant portion of this population does not have permanent employment and is excluded from the regular means of access to formal housing, leading them to occupy areas irregularly. The area studied is the Buriti Community, an irregular occupation established in 2013 near a housing complex in the Nova Cidade neighborhood, constituting a small-scale example of what occurred in previous periods in the city of Manaus. In this sense, the general objective of this research is to understand the urban precariousness in the Buriti Community based on the agents that shape the production of space. The methodology used during the research consists of a bibliographic survey, field activities with open interviews, and the use of photographic records to corroborate the identification of spatial processes and precariousness, among other aspects proposed by this research. In addition, a cartographic product was developed, as well as a topographic profile to demonstrate the vulnerabilities of the geodynamic processes present in the daily lives of the community's residents. Thus, the research discusses the production of space and urban precariousness, the modeling agents, the approach to the neighborhoods of Cidade Nova and Nova Cidade as vectors of planned and unplanned urban expansion, as well as the action of excluded groups whose spatial expression is areas of urban precariousness and socio-environmental consequences, whose scope in the production of urban space allows for analysis from the perspective of a hybrid geography. Some of the results found were the marked domination of the area by counter-order, a process of latent cohesion, in addition to the particularities represented by rented residential buildings, representing exclusion within the excluded area.
