Resumo
Manaus, in the late 19th century and early 20th century, experienced an exceptional populational growth due to the attraction of migrants to the exploitation and manufacture of rubber. But the economic crisis came in 1913, completely changing the city that was once the Paris of the Tropics, mainly because in 1918 the Spanish flu pandemic arrived in the city, bringing death and the collapse of the healthcare system. The health crisis soon reached people from all social classes, where official medicine medications seemed to have no effect against such a terrible virus. This thesis examines this event from the perspective of global history, raising new questions based on original sources that have not yet been studied.
