Resumo

The ichthyological collection of the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Fisheries Management of the Madeira River Basin (LIOP), established in 2012, has become an important scientific and educational resource in the southwestern Amazon. This study aimed to analyze the pedagogical and socio-environmental contributions of the “Espaços Educadores” Program, developed by LIOP between 2020 and 2024, highlighting the role of the ichthyological collection as a tool for science popularization, environmental education, and the strengthening of Science Education. The research, qualitative and quantitative in nature with a documentary focus, was based on institutional records, technical reports, evaluation forms, the laboratory portfolio, and related scientific productions. The analysis, structured according to content analysis procedures, comprised four units: guided visits, training courses, workshops, events and public advisory activities, as well as the growth and relevance of the ichthyological collection. The results indicate that the program conducted 22 activities within the defined period, including guided visits, technical training, itinerant science actions, workshops, and outreach events, benefiting basic education students, undergraduate and graduate students, artisanal fishers, public agencies, and riverine communities. The guided visits demonstrated a strong positive impact on students’ learning and environmental awareness, with average evaluations above 9.5, especially due to the use of preserved specimens, research equipment, and participatory methodologies. The itinerant activities expanded access to scientific knowledge in rural and riverine areas, reinforcing the connection between the university and society. The training courses, workshops, and events contributed to professional development and improved environmental and fisheries monitoring in the region. The findings demonstrate that the pedagogical use of the ichthyological collection and the activities of the program foster a contextualized and participatory Science Education aligned with the 2030 Agenda, contributing significantly to the goals of SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). Thus, LIOP stands out as a non-formal learning space and a strategic center for biodiversity conservation, scientific training, and the strengthening of socio-environmental awareness in the southwestern Amazon.
