O novo arco e flecha: a influência das tecnologias da informação na gestão do território Paiter Suruí

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the insertion of new information and communication technologies within the Paiter Suruí Indigenous Territory as a means of territorial defense. To reflect on these issues, we adopted the phenomenological method, which consists of the science of phenomena. The method proposes looking at our experiences from a scientific perspective, believing that everything real is a phenomenon—and therein lies the essence of things. In other words, the method consists of accessing the field of consciousness and then subjecting it to analysis. The technique adopted was oral sources, considered the oldest in the dissemination and propagation of knowledge, through interviews with this people. We also used documentary analysis of the Paiter Management Plan and relied on a geographical bibliographic review through the ideas of authors who address the topic. In recent years, some Indigenous peoples of the Brazilian Amazon have sought new methods to improve their well-being, defending their territory, and preserving their cultural heritage. The cultural losses following contact with non-Indigenous peoples have been incalculable. In light of this, some of these peoples have taken a stand against these threats. An example is the Paiter Suruí people, residing in the Sete de Setembro Indigenous Land in the municipality of Cacoal, Rondônia, who in recent years have been using cutting-edge technological tools to combat the harm caused by the contact process, assisting them in monitoring their territory and also in promoting their natural and cultural riches. The innovative method the Paiter have found to minimize their conflicts and losses establishes prospects for the future, given the creation of an environmental management plan. Modern devices emerge as an opportunity not only for ancestral and historical resignification, but also for Indigenous autonomy, in a multifaceted and complex scenario.
