Efeitos da suplementação com açaí (Euterpe precatoria) sobre a recuperação pós dano muscular induzido por protocolo de saltos

Resumo

Muscle contractions produce free radicals that can affect muscle strength production and recovery. Antioxidant-rich herbal medicines have emerged as an alternative in accelerating muscle recovery. The objective was to evaluate the effects of açaí supplementation (Euterpe Precatory) on indirect markers of muscle damage caused by jumping protocol. The study was randomized, crossover, double-blind, and placebo controlled. Twelve physically active men participated (27.5± 6.41 years, 82.7 ±13.0 kg, and 24.17 ± 8.87 %F). The study lasted 21 days, and all performed the protocol at 2 times separated by 7 days of washout. The protocol consisted of 100 maximum countermovement jumps. Supplementation was performed with 40g/day for 7 days with lyophilized açai (GA) or placebo (GP). CK, LDK and TEAC were evaluated at 0 and 24h. Architecture of the Vastus Lateralis (VL) and muscle quality of the VL, Rectus Femoris (RF), Medial Gastrocnemius (GM), delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) in the VL, RF, GM and after warm-up, in addition to isometric maximal voluntary contraction (MVIC) of knee extensors and flexors were evaluated at 0, 24, 48 and 72h after the protocol. Time effects (p<0.001) were observed on VL DOMS, RF, GM, DOMS after treadmill warm-up, CK, LDH, CVMI of extensors, VL fascicle length and VL, RF and GM echo-intensity. Treatment effects were observed for TEAC in GA (p=0.001) and time-treatment interaction was observed only for CVMI of knee flexors (p=0.028) in GA. We concluded that the protocol was effective to generate muscle damage. In GA there was an increase in TEAC, with no advantages in DOMS, CK, LDH, CVIM of knee extensors, architecture and muscle quality when compared to GP. Exception made only for CVMI of the knee flexors.
