This work deals with the importance and main aspects related to traditional knowledge and its protection through intellectual property, to contribute to the appreciation, preservation of technique, culture and millennial knowledge present in indigenous artisanal production. Thus, the objective of the research was to constitute a tool for safeguarding and managing information of the Association of Indigenous Women of the Upper Rio Negro – AMARN. For this, an exploratory study was carried out with a qualitative approach through the examination of the intellectual property management of the products developed at AMARN. In addition, documentary research was carried out at the association's headquarters, the creation of a repository using the DSpace software to record, organize, manage and preserve the knowledge of indigenous women associated with AMARN, and the registration of reports by indigenous elders, meeting the Association's need to document traditional knowledge and compose the repository. The results include the collection of information about AMARN and the tucum fiber handicrafts produced by the indigenous women, the analysis of models for the protection of traditional knowledge in some countries, and the process of creation, development and implementation of the Repository of the Association of Indigenous Women of the Upper Rio Negro – AMARN, which aims to contribute to the preservation of intangible heritage or the misappropriation of traditional knowledge. In this way, it was possible to conclude that there are numerous strategies and diversity of methods used to preserve and protect traditional knowledge by different countries, demonstrating the importance of the theme in the global context. The development of a digital repository for AMARN considered the initiatives that aimed to protect traditional knowledge through databases and with this, it was sought to contribute to the management, storage, preservation of memory and knowledge produced so far, directly and indirectly, by the members of this important association of indigenous women. The organization of this knowledge can also collaborate with intellectual property, from the identification of possible collective trademarks, for example. As well, future projects can cooperate to increase the visibility and appreciation of handicraft products produced by indigenous women, contributing to cultural preservation, respect for cultural identities and appreciation of traditional knowledge in the Amazon region.
