Coivara: Uma prática milenar no manejo agrícola indígena na Associação Agrícola Teotônio Ferreira em São Gabriel da Cachoeira / AM

Abstract

This study presents the agricultural activity known as coivaras, addressing the practices of local and social indigenous activities of the Teotônio Ferreira Agricultural Association in the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira – AM. The research is of qualitative emphasis, bibliographic, and focuses on the traditional knowledge of the indigenous populations of the Upper Rio Negro. The findings of the research reveal that the tradition of indigenous agricultural practice is ancient, passed down from generation to generation, and continues to this day, albeit with the incorporation of new tools, such as iron axes, chainsaws, and cassava grating machines, among others. The concern of the elders lies in the excessive use of this technology leading to ecological imbalance. Keywords: Alto Rio Negro - Traditional Knowledge – Agricultur – Coivara -Indigenous people
