Liberdade é não ter medo: um estudo sobre a representação política de mulheres negras nos partidos em Manaus

Abstract

This study adresses the political representation of black women in political parties. The aim is to analyze the political representation of black women in party politics in Manaus from 2016 to 2024, considering the cisheteropatriarchal – racist – capitalist system. Using historical materialism and Black feminism and Marxist literature as a theoretical and methodological framework, six interviews were conducted and analyzed with political representatives and party Leaders from the PT, PcdoB, and MDB in Manaus. The main findings highlight that factor such as financial security, family support, political education, and party structure are crucial for political representation. Despite the existence of secretariats and quotas in the parties, there is still a lack of effective actions to adress racism and sexism. A significant gap in data on race/color of party members and the electorate was also found, indicating the need for better data systematization and transparency. The research contributes by shedding light on the experiences of black women in politics in the Amazon, encouraging parties and public institutions to improve their data and commitments to this group, promote inclusive debates, and create more appropriate public policies, while collaborating with these members to better understand the political experiences they face.
