INTRODUCTION: The International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®) allows the adoption of terminological subsets for specific nursing phenomena and areas, making nursing records more visible and standardized across different contexts. The ICNP® terminological subset for patients with hypertension in primary care has been validated for the general population, raising the question of its applicability to nursing practice in Indigenous health. This subset comprises 60 nursing diagnosis/outcome statements and 284 Nursing Intervention (NI) statements. OBJECTIVE: To identify the applicability of the NI statements included in the ICNP® terminological subset for patients with hypertension in primary care to nursing practice in Indigenous health, and to describe the correspondence between the practices reported by nurses and the ICNP® subset for hypertension in primary care. METHODS: A descriptive consensus-building study employing the Delphi group approach conducted in two subsequent meetings. With an innovative character, the study applied pragmatic applicability in nursing practice, selecting nurses directly involved in the care of the population and/or in the practice setting of interest. Thirty-seven nurses working in the Special Indigenous Health Districts (DSEI) of Manaus and Alto Rio Negro participated. Data were processed descriptively, using absolute and relative frequencies, and analyzed based on Wanda Horta’s Theory of Basic Human Needs and Madeleine Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality. RESULTS: After two consensus meetings, 282 NI statements (99.2%) were considered applicable to nursing practice in Indigenous health in the DSEI Manaus, and 278 NI statements (97.8%) in the DSEI Alto Rio Negro. The participating nurses suggested modifications in 60 NI statements for the DSEI Manaus and 35 NI statements for the DSEI Alto Rio Negro, aiming to incorporate terms that reflect Indigenous health nursing care and adapt the work process to the demands of time, human resources, and logistics in the DSEI included. CONCLUSION: The high concordance between nursing practices in Indigenous contexts and the standardized NI statements of the ICNP® subset for hypertension in primary care indicates its applicability for use within the DSEI. This strengthens nursing care by facilitating the implementation and documentation of the Nursing Process and by providing visibility to the role of nurses in Indigenous health.
