Abstract

Objective: To verify how aging is approached in nurse training. Method: Descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach, using documentary and oral sources. An analysis of the Pedagogical Projects of the courses (PPC's) and teaching plans, research project spreadsheets, and extension project spreadsheets, carried out by institutions relating to elderly health from 2018 to 2022, was also carried out. Interviews were also carried out with nursing course teachers working on the topic of elderly health with a semi-structured interview guide, based on COREQ. Results: The PPC’s, teaching plans and teachers addressed the topic of aging in light of comprehensive, multidimensional care and with the aim of training a critical-reflective professional. From 2018 to 2022, 18 scientific initiation projects and 8 extension actions aimed at the elderly were carried out. Two PPCs from the years 2012/2 and 2019/1 were analyzed. Final Considerations: This study shows that thematic aging has been approached from gerontological aspects, with a focus on comprehensive care for the elderly, encompassing the multidimensionality of the elderly person, expressed in the programmatic contents, PPC's, teaching plans, and teachers' speeches
