Trajetórias Socioambientais e Conservação na RDS do Rio Negro (Amazonas, Brasil)

Abstract

Socio-environmental trajectories are shaped by the relationship between humans and natural elements such as water, land, and forests. These dynamics generate collectively constructed narratives that influence environmental conditions and ensure the permanence of human populations in their territories through socio-environmental conservation strategies. This study examines socio-environmental dynamics within a sustainable-use conservation unit in the lower Rio Negro, emphasizing the role of social actors as protagonists in narratives about the signs of environmental history, socio-productive activities and their potential as well as the environmental conservation strategies they practice. The narratives are structured and discussed across three chapters. Overall, the study aims to analyze socio-environmental dynamics and conservation strategies in the community of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro, located within the Rio Negro Sustainable Development Reserve. To achieve this objective, a mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology was adopted, incorporating various methodological tools such as forms, field reports, open interviews, the Environmental Conservation Matrix, the Potential Matrix, and Problem Trees. The data analysis allowed for the identification of the perpetuation and dissemination of traditional knowledge, as well as the credibility attributed to it. Regarding socio-productive activities in the community of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro, the study identified an ongoing consolidation process with significant potential for expansion. The research also highlights the importance of participatory research in integrating and scientific knowledge, fostering a more inclusive and effective approach that contributes both to environmental conservation and to the community’s role in local governance.
