Desenvolvimento de manual prático de apoio ao ensino da anestesiologia odontológica

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Local anesthesia is an essential and routine step in dental care, aiming at comfort and absence of pain. It can present numerous variables that will influence the result, being these: systemic changes of the patient, composition of the anesthetic and its associations, and finally the knowledge of maxillomandibular anesthetic techniques, thus being able to present high rates of failure or complications. Considering these variables, it is considered that most of the undergraduate students in dentistry do not have adequate knowledge about anesthetic techniques, and may not adequately relate the theoretical foundation to practice, requiring new mechanisms to assist in teaching-learning. The great ease of access to mobile devices and their use in learning, provides the possibility of quick consultations to information from reliable and scientifically based sources, which makes this method conducive to linking and consolidating knowledge. Devices, smartphones and tablets, have become increasingly useful tools in the use of specialized technical education. OBJECTIVES: to develop the illustrated practical manual, in e-book format, to support the teaching-learning of dental anesthesiology. METHOD: An integrative literature review was carried out, using multiple MeSH descriptors on local dental anesthesia, from the last 10 years, using the databases, United States National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Cochrane Library for collecting references. RESULT: The search found 504 publications, four books and two manuals. After selection, 35 references were then included, of which 27 were literature reviews, a systematic review and meta-analysis, a systematic review and six complementary literature, four textbooks and two manuals of anesthetic manufacturers, which served as a basis for the development of the practical manual of dental anesthesiology in e-book format.
