Resumo

The present master’s thesis evaluated the effects of including tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) residue oil in commercial hen diets on digestive, hematological, and biochemical parameters. A digestibility trial was conducted with 72 Hisex Brown hens (40 weeks old) distributed in a completely randomized design with six replicates. The oil was obtained from tambaqui viscera and subjected to extraction and characterization processes. The obtained energy value was 8,345.38 kcal/kg of apparent metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen balance (AMEn), demonstrating its potential as a lipid source. The results showed that tambaqui residue oil significantly influenced hematological parameters, such as hemoglobin and erythrocytes, which showed an initial reduction followed by an increase at higher inclusion levels. Additionally, a linear increase in serum cholesterol and modulation in leukocyte count (heterophils, eosinophils, and lymphocytes) were observed, indicating possible immunomodulatory effects. These variations may reflect adjustments in lipid and protein metabolism and the inflammatory response of the birds. Thus, tambaqui residue oil proved to be a viable alternative for formulating commercial hen diets, contributing to the sustainable use of fish industry residues and promoting lower-cost alternatives for animal nutrition. Further studies are recommended to optimize inclusion levels and evaluate the long-term effects on the health and productivity of the birds.
