Resumo
Brazilian pig farming, although historically concentrated in the South and Southeast regions, shows potential for expansion into other areas of the country, such as the Amazon. However, managing pigs in humid tropical environments requires specific care due to the animals' sensitivity to temperature fluctuations. This research aims to assess the impact of climatic conditions on the welfare and productivity of pigs raised in confinement. Chapter 1. Swine environment in the Amazon: Enrichment strategies and sustainability; Chapter 2. Physiological stress biomarkers in pig specimens: A systematic comparative review of salivary and plasma cortisol; Chapter 3. Comparative review of the behavior of sows in individual and collective housing systems; and Chapter 4. Multivariate assessment of pig farming in the humid tropics: Environment, ethology, and zootechnical performance. These results contribute to a better understandingof the effects of tropical climatic conditions on pig welfare and productivity, enabling the development of more efficient and sustainable management strategies for the Amazon region.
