The LGBTI+ population remains in a constant struggle to gain rights and occupy spaces in society, and continues to be a socially vulnerable group due to persistent prejudice and stigma. This population is present in a variety of settings shared with the general population and faces daily situations that bring to the surface issues and tensions related to their sexual identities. The residential environment encompasses the home, the neighborhood, and the surrounding community. It includes both the physical and social aspects of the living space. The home, as a space of privacy, safety, and intimate socialization, is embedded within a neighborhood that offers services, opportunities for social interactions, and a sense of community. This neighborhood is shaped by neighbors, who personify the social dimension of the residential environment. These elements together form the residential environment, and their various dimensions influence the residents’ quality of life. Residential satisfaction is considered an important predictor of human well-being and refers to the evaluation that individuals make regarding their experiences within the residential environment. In this space, residents' differences are frequently brought into situations of convergence, divergence, and tension. From this context emerges the guiding question: how do same-sex families interact with their surroundings, and how have they been received within their residential environments in the city of Manaus? To address this, a sociodemographic questionnaire and a residential satisfaction scale were administered to 104 individuals, followed by semi-structured interviews with five families. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and ordinal regression, supported by R software. The qualitative data from the interviews were coded, categorized, and processed using the IRAMUTEQ software through Descending Hierarchical Classification (CHD). The results suggest that better socioeconomic conditions and more privileged urban locations are associated with higher levels of residential satisfaction among same-sex families, especially regarding the physical and social aspects of their residential environments. The quality of transportation, as well as subjective and objective attributes of the home, neighborhood, and neighboring relations, were identified as key determinants of residential satisfaction. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how samesex families perceive their residential environments in the city of Manaus, shedding light on their everyday experiences and specific needs. These insights may support reflections and practices that promote healthier and more inclusive environments for the LGBTI+ population, as well as foster scientific production within the field of Environmental Psychology and its intersection with gender and sexuality studies.
