Mudança climática e saúde mental: competências socioemocionais no ensino básico.

Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the relationship between climate change, mental health, and the development of socio-emotional skills in basic education. It starts from the observation that changes in the global climate, in addition to their physical and environmental effects, have significant impacts on the mental health of populations, especially among children and adolescents. The general objective of the research was the development of a technical-technological product that would enable a deeper understanding of how emotional skills contribute to mental health in coping with climate change, incorporating sustainability principles into school life. The specific objectives were formulated with the aim of: I) identifying, through individual and collective narratives, the knowledge students have about climate change and how these changes can affect human health; II) describing the emotional aspects associated with the impacts of climate change on mental health, from the students’ local perspective; III) designing collaborative activities through pedagogical practices in emotional education, as a mitigating strategy for environmental influences, with basic education students.Based on the results obtained in the proposed activities, it was possible to observe the importance of individual and collective knowledge in building a universe of everyday knowledge, which had initially been little emphasized by the participants. With just a few methodological stimuli, it was possible to identify the social representation of global climate change in the students’ lives, who, in a unique way, also pointed out the core elements of that representation.
