Entre invisibilidade e mudanças sociopolíticas: práticas de protagonismo e resistência dos povos indígenas na cidade de Coari-AM

Abstract

This dissertation is the result of one of the efforts to seek visibility that indigenous peoples in the city of Coari desire from a broader perspective. The objective was to understand the practices of protagonism and resistance of indigenous peoples in the formation of the city of Coari and how they have promoted changes in their condition of sociopolitical invisibility. The study pointed out that the indigenous people of Coari were also victims of the hegemonic power's plan to erase indigenous peoples in Brazil since the arrival of invaders in Brazilian lands driven by maritime expansion, going through the formation of the city in which indigenous influence suffered countless attempts to disappearance, reaching the present day with a slightly more favorable scenario, but with new challenges in the face of a still persistent plan of erasure. The methodology focused on participatory research from the perspective of historical- dialectical materialism and used comprehensive interview techniques and oral history for the purpose of a deeper and more flexible survey, valuing marginalized voices. The research identified that although these people face a situation of historical invisibility, becoming targets of a plan of ethnocide and annihilation of rights, their protagonism and resistance made them active victims by knowing how to use these tools in the search for changing reality, not allowing this invisibility to culminate in the extinction of these nations.
