Environmental tenders are important instruments to achieve sustainable development, as they seek to promote the preservation of the environment and the responsible use of natural resources during the process of acquiring goods and services. Sustainable development is a concept that aims to meet the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, and to achieve this goal, it is essential to adopt more responsible and conscious practices in relation to the environment. The incorporation of environmental criteria in sustainable purchases involves evaluating and prioritizing products and services that have less environmental impact in their production, use and disposal. This includes considering aspects such as energy efficiency, use of recycled materials, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, sustainability certifications, among others. Sustainable procurement is not just limited to the public sector, but is also a practice encouraged in the private sector. Large companies and organizations have adopted this approach as part of their corporate social responsibility strategies and to meet growing consumer demands for environmentally responsible products and services. The benefits of adopting sustainable purchasing are diverse for preserving the environment and mitigating climate change, this practice can also drive innovation by encouraging the development of cleaner and more sustainable technologies. However, sustainable purchasing can present challenges, such as the lack of clear and standardized information about the sustainability of products and services, the need for awareness and training of those involved in the purchasing process, and sometimes the limited availability of sustainable options in certain sectors. To overcome these obstacles, governments, companies and civil society can collaborate in the development of policies and programs that encourage the adoption of sustainable procurement practices. Awareness of the importance of these actions is also essential for consumers to make more conscious choices and demand sustainable products and services to balance economic growth with environmental protection, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient future.
