Abstract

The progress of theoretical studies into geodiversity in recent decades has been accompanied by the development of new methodologies aimed at evaluating it and understanding its correlation with various aspects of the natural and man-made environment. In this context, this study applied a methodology for drawing up the Geodiversity Index Map (GIM) in the municipality of Presidente Figueiredo, in the state of Amazonas - a region characterized by a significant variety of natural elements, which provide high potential for geoconservation initiatives. The construction of the MIG was based on the integration of four sub-indices (geological, pedological, geomorphological and hydrographical), based on open-access public data. The results show that the highest geodiversity values are concentrated in the southern part of the municipality, corresponding to the transition zone between the Amazon Sedimentary Basin and the Amazon Craton. The lowest values were observed in the Balbina reservoir area, where the geological and geomorphological features are hidden by the water. On the other hand, the northern part of the municipality showed high geodiversity, associated with the presence of linear geological structures, alluvial deposits and floodplain gleissols. The analysis integrated with the land use and occupation map showed a correlation between areas of higher geodiversity value and greater intensity of anthropogenic occupation, revealing how natural elements directly influence the social, economic and cultural organization of the territory. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of GIMs as a tool for visualizing and interpreting complex geospatial data, reinforcing their applicability in environmental planning and conservation strategies in ecologically sensitive regions.
