To contextualize this production, the study traces a brief historical trajectory of literature in the Amazonas region, from the colonial period to the emergence of newspapers and early periodicals, emphasizing the role of The Dawn Club (1954) in reshaping the cultural and literary labdscape, special attention is given to Cavalho’s early works The Ash Bird (1957) and The Guidebook of Righteous Suffering with Lessons on Loving Well (1965) which mark his entry into the lyrical tradition. The analysis is grounded in Key theorical frameworks on modern lyric poetry and modernity, including Hugo Friedrich, Antoine Compagnon, Octávio Paz, and Charles Baudelaire. Based on the concept of the “revitalized” lyrical subject”, five poems published in Jornal do Commercio – Love for the Mountain (1954) Dark Tale (1956) I Am Coming from Afar (1956) My New Tale (1961), and A Nine-day devotion (1970) – are examined. The findings indicate that Carvalho’s poetry expresses subjective experiences characteristic of the lyrical genre while simultaneously engaging with social inequalities and political tensions revealing a heightened and socially commetted lyrical voice.
