Resiliência socioecológica e mudança climática: um estudo de caso na Comunidade Quilombola Sagrado Coração de Jesus do Lago de Serpa, Itacoatiara/AM

Resumo

This dissertation analyzed the socio-ecological resilience in the Quilombola Community Sagrado Coração de Jesus do Lago do Serpa, located in Itacoatiara-AM, in the face of climate change. The study had as specific objectives: 1) to describe the process of occupation and recognition of the territory, 2) to identify the areas of common use and the main natural resources, and 3) to calculate the community's socio-ecological resilience index. To this end, research techniques were used that involved documentary analysis, structured and semi-structured interviews with long-term residents and leaders, participatory mapping, direct observation, and qualitative analysis in specific software. The calculated socio-ecological resilience index was 0.55, which indicates a system in dynamic equilibrium; that is, on the one hand, traditional knowledge sustains adaptive management practices, and on the other hand, low social cohesion and precarious infrastructure undermine the community's adaptive capacity. The study showed the socio-ecological diversity of the territory, strongly linked to Lago do Serpa, yet subjected to pressures such as water pollution, overfishing, and real estate speculation. Climate impacts already materialize in agricultural losses, droughts, extreme heat, and storms, affecting the food security and health of the quilombolas. It was concluded, therefore, that the socio-ecological resilience of the community depends both on internal strengthening, through collective mobilization, and on the definitive titling of the territory, a fundamental device to ensure the permanence and cultural reproduction of these peoples, guarantee environmental justice, and broaden adaptive strategies in the face of climate change. Keywords: traditional communities; adaptive capacity; territoriality; socio-environmental conflicts.
