'Essa guerra não é nossa': Pacto de não-violência e masculinidades em uma torcida de Manaus'

Abstract

This research is based on ethnography and participant observation conducted with União Manaus, an organized football fan group of Manaus Futebol Clube, between May 2023 and July 2024, during matches at Colina Stadium and Arena da Amazônia. These matches were part of the third and fourth divisions of the Brazilian Championship as well as the Amazonas State Championship. The study situates the football scene within the socio-cultural context of Amazonas and examines the history and dynamics of organized fan groups, with a particular focus on gender as a central lens for analyzing relationships and performances among supporters. These interactions are shaped by an internal non-violence pact within the group. The research aims to understand how members construct and perform masculinities, exploring this dimension through the cultural and social practices associated with football fandom. It was found that União Manaus stands out as a fan group striving to build a unique identity based on the intensity and coordination of their performances in the stadiums, especially under adverse weather conditions.
