Sustentabilidade e reterritorialização na Aldeia Gavião do Tarumã-Açu – Manaus/Am

Resumo

This research aimed to understand the reterritorialization process of the Sateré-Mawé of the Gavião Village in the Tarumã-Açu River, and how they are ensuring their sustainability in this new territory. The study area of this research is the Gavião Village (TAWA HYWI), located in the micro-basin of the Tarumã-Açu River, a tributary of the Negro River, along the banks of the Tiú Stream, in the municipality of Manaus, state of Amazonas, Brazil. The specific objectives were drawn up in three main axes: How was the occupation process in the Gavião Village? What is the socio-political organization of the Gavião Village? What is the relationship between sustainability and interculturality in the Gavião Village? The research was exploratory and qualitative in nature, with anti-colonial principles, using participatory research procedures, based on the use of the Conceptual Map to guide the theoretical-methodological approach. The theoretical framework focuses on concepts of culture, territory, deterritorialization, reterritorialization, territoriality, interculturality, and sustainability, involving fieldwork, knowledge management workshops, participatory mapping, photographic records, and secondary documentary sources. The processes of deterritorialization and reterritorialization of the Sateré-Mawé in Gavião Village began with the migration of Tereza Ferreira from the Gavião clan, along with members of her family, who occupied this land through the planting of cassava. However, with the arrival of her granddaughter Terezinha Ferreira and her husband, they sought other means to learn how to work this new land to ensure the sustainability of the village. Through participatory research, it was possible to understand that the Sateré-Mawé have redefined their cultural relations, integrating elements from both indigenous and non-indigenous cultures, creating a territoriality based on the traditions and customs of their ancestral territory, Andirá-Marau, and interculturality. In the socio-political organization of the Gavião Village, the Sateré-Mawé preserve their ancestral traditions, where personal responsibility is linked to the principle of collectivity. The relationship between sustainability and interculturality is evidenced in agricultural practices that integrate new planting technologies with cultural knowledge, although they have not yet fully guaranteed sustainability. Interculturality promotes not only sustainability but also autonomy and the appreciation of indigenous knowledge, strengthening the identity and resilience of the Sateré-Mawé.
