Estratégia de gestão ambiental em instituições de ensino técnico e tecnológico e escolas sustentáveis

Abstract

The biodiversity of the Amazon region has raised increasing concerns regarding environmental preservation. In this context, professional and technological education plays a fundamental role in training individuals qualified to work in the labor market in this region, particularly in the implementation of sustainable practices. Given this scenario, the use of responsible energy and water consumption protocols can significantly contribute to the efficient management of these resources in basic, technical, and technological education schools. Aiming to develop a Technical Technological Product (PTT) that helps educational institutions reflect on reducing energy and water consumption, focusing on the school environment, the research adopted the case study methodology. The study site was the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Amazonas (IFAM) – Manacapuru Campus, with the research subjects being the Principal and Administrative Staff. The procedure adopted was structured into three stages: (1) Literature and documentary review, (2) Data collection, through a preliminary diagnosis with the school’s management team, (3) Data analysis, for compiling and examining the results obtained, using graphs and tables to illustrate and ease understanding. The school has a system for water collection, storage, and distribution, which is used for human and animal consumption, cleaning spaces, and plant irrigation. Regarding energy consumption, excessive use of air conditioning was identified, along with the lack of natural ventilation, obsolete and inadequate appliances, oversized rooms compared to the cooling capacity of the air conditioners, insufficient lighting, and a lack of standardization of light bulbs. It is concluded, therefore, that the combination of education, technology, and efficient resource management can transform schools in the Amazon region into reference spaces for environmental preservation. To effectively achieve sustainability, a major agreement and a joint effort between the public administration, the academic community, and civil society are necessary.
