Abstract

This dissertation examines the intersection of ethics, education, philosophy, and environmental preservation, with a focus on the contemporary environmental crisis. Grounded in Hans Jonas's Principle of Responsibility, the research proposes an ethical reflection on the relationship between human actions and the planet's survival. Jonas emphasizes the need for an ethical commitment to the future, considering the vulnerability of nature and the irreversible impacts of modern technologies. The heuristic of fear, a central concept of the author, is presented as a preventive warning to guide sustainable choices in the present. The study employs an interdisciplinary approach to analyze Brazil's environmental crisis, focusing on deforestation in the Amazon and the fragility of public policies, highlighting the lack of an ethics of responsibility in the national context. In the educational field, the dissertation underscores philosophy as a tool to promote critical and ethical awareness, advocating for the integration of environmental ethics into school curricula through innovative practices. The use of cinematic resources, such as WALL-E and Mad Max, is suggested as a pedagogical strategy to sensitize young people and foster debates on the risks of environmental degradation. The research bridges philosophical theory and pedagogical practices to demonstrate how environmental education based on the Principle of Responsibility can empower individuals to act proactively in building a sustainable future. By exploring the relationship between ethics and action, this dissertation aims to contribute to the development of public policies and educational strategies that address the ethical and environmental challenges of our time.
