Efeitos do sal comum na reprodução de matrinxã, Brycon amazonicus Spix & Agassiz, 1829: aspectos fisiológicos e comportamentais

Resumo

Common salt is widely used in fish farming as a stress reducer; however, little is known about the appropriate concentrations for its use during the reproduction of matrinxã, Brycon amazonicus. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of salt in water during matrinxã reproduction. This study was divided into three chapters: 1st Chapter - a literature review was carried out on matrinxã and the effect of the use of common salt in water on social behavior and stressful conditions; Chapter 2: Salt concentrations (0,6,10,14 and 15 g/L) were evaluated during an acute toxicity test, indicating the use of 6 g/L in juveniles of Brycon amazonicus for 96 hours, and that salinities above 15 g/L cause mortality; Chapter 3: the ethogram of social interactions for B. amazonicus was elaborated, and the reproductive behavior was evaluated in two salinities (0 and 2 g/L), showing that higher levels of salinity caused an increase in aggressive interactions between females. However, this condition decreased cortisol levels in males and increased energy expenditure in the erythrocyte parameters of females, evidenced by the fact that there was no difference between fertilization and hatching rates.
