Abstract

Vocational Development, Career Guidance, and Career Education are fields related to supporting and guiding individuals in their educational and professional journeys. Vocational Development is a continuous process of growth and self-discovery that influences career choices throughout life. Career Guidance and Career Education provide practical and technical support that helps in making career decisions. Both are essential for long-term personal and professional success.The aim of this research was to evaluate the participation of teachers in shaping the career projects of high school students at a public school in the municipality of Humaitá/AM. To achieve this goal, we sought to understand teachers' perceptions regarding their potential involvement in the Vocational Development and career choices of students, as well as to investigate whether teachers engage in activities aimed at assisting students in their career decisions. Twelve teachers participated in the study. This is qualitative and exploratory research, with semi-structured interviews as the data collection instrument. The analysis of the findings was based on Thematic Analysis. The results indicate that teachers have distinct perceptions about the construction of students' career projects, but they believe they exert some influence on these choices. Despite this, they do not engage in systematically organized activities to assist students in this process. Although literature has long demonstrated the importance of teachers in the process of developing a career project, the participants in this study do not fully grasp the extent of their role in these processes. In this sense, it can be concluded that there are no specific practices for Career Guidance and Education, and that ongoing investments in training programs for teachers in Career Guidance and Career Education are crucial. Such investments would equip teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to help students navigate the significant challenge of choosing a profession.
