Participação popular e sustentabilidade: vozes da comunidade em meio à conservação do meio ambiente e à preservação da biodiversidade

Abstract

The balanced environment, an idea founded on a legislative framework, must be understood as a fundamental right. One of the mechanisms for defending and guaranteeing the viability of this right is the action of public authorities, but also the participation of society. When considering the municipality of Humaitá, Amazonas, in the context, we examine the vulnerabilities related to the environmental issues it faces, as well as the dynamics of residents' responses to environmental demands. In view of this, the research sought to analyze the dynamics of popular organization and participation of the municipality's residents of Humaitá with regard to the fight for sustainable development, a balanced environment and the conservation of biodiversity. To this end, identify the social and political actors in the Humaitaense community involved in the dynamics of action related to environmental preservation and biodiversity conservation; assess residents' perceptions of public participation regarding environmental issues, and highlight the factors that influence public participation on environmental issues in the municipality of Humaitá. For the proposed study, a qualitative approach was chosen, and semi-structured interviews were used as the data collection tool. The population sample consisted of 30 participants, with one group made up of members of deliberative council and another group composed of individuals involved in other forms of collective organization. Thematic Content Analysis was adopted as the data analysis technique. Data processing was based on a critical and reflective analysis of the content. The interpretation of the qualitative research data will focus on the information and social representations, prioritizing scientific rigor and ethical principles. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the sociopolitical actors identified in their respective fields of activity understand the mechanisms of democratic participation, as well as the importance of public participation in relation to environmental issues. The results also highlight the weaknesses that affect the dynamics of organization and participation among Humaitá residents. It is expected that this study will contribute to the discussion on this topic in Brazil's Northern region, with an emphasis on the municipality of Humaitá, and encourage further research on the subject.
