Resumo

This dissertation presents a socio-environmental analysis of the Ariri River watershed, located between the municipalities of Belém and Ananindeua, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém (RMB), based on data from the 2022 Demographic Census, organized by census tract. Using the Driving Force–Pressure–State–Impact–Response (DPSIR) methodology, combined with the Urban Environmental System (UES) approach, the study investigates how processes of informal urbanization, social exclusion, and lack of environmental governance produce vulnerabilities and degrade the ecological functions of the watershed. The results highlight multiple layers of environmental, social, and institutional vulnerability that overlap to form a scenario of socio-environmental injustice. Most households lack basic infrastructure such as sanitation and waste collection, while the suppression of riparian vegetation, the silting of streams, and frequent flooding reveal accumulated environmental degradation. The research contributes to urban planning by proposing a territorialized and critical reading of the metropolitan socio-environmental reality. The adaptation of the DPSIR methodology to the scale of an urban watershed proves effective in articulating statistical data with historical, social, and political dynamics. The use of participatory methodologies and remote sensing is recommended for future studies, aiming to strengthen integrated diagnoses and support the development of socio-environmental justice indicators.
